“When I get up every morning, I start to feel that there`s something pushing me to finish all the work which I have to do!” said a 25-year-old man, who just graduated from university and is going to face the real world. He mentioned having to get up early in order to catch the bus on time. If not, he would be late for the interview or even lose his job opportunity. “I feel stressed about everything!”
Nowadays, people are suffering from different diseases and obviously, stress has already become one of them. According to the survey, 90% of workers and families go to see the doctor because of stress; every year stress costs companies $300 billion, which means $3000 for each worker. It`s becoming more and more serious in today`s society. There are a lot of causes of stress, but people are trying to look for some ways on how to cope with it.
Stress is a body`s physical response to a perceived demand or threat, which happens with various perceptions in different situations and times. It is a feeling which is created when people react to particular events, and is called the “Fight-or-Flight” response. When a person experiences a situation which makes him or her feel stressed, the body turns off all the information, all the non-needed functions and only turns on the oxygen and glucose system which go to the large muscles of the arms and legs, so that this person can choose to fight or to run away. What are the major types of stress? The first one is esters which is a functional and helpful stress. You experience it right before you have the need to use it. It helps you perform better and even helps you achieve your target. What`s more, when a person needs to have some extra energy or creativity, esters can bring him the inspiration. On the contrary, distress is a negative type of stress which makes your mind uncomfortable and the body undergoes all the changes but we don't do anything beneficial with it.
When we experience stress, there are some negative effects to the body. It increases the heart rate, respiration and blood pressure, while decrease sing the blood to the digestive tract and reproduction. Other physical effects include a dry mouth and stomach cramps. The person will also start sweating while he or she feels angry and worried. Your brain will also experience the feeling of inattention and your mind will go blank which leads to a sleeping problem. You may have bad dreams during the night as a result. Some of your behaviors will also be changed when you experience stress. You may change your eating and sleeping habits. Sometimes you get very anxious, causing you to yell out in frustration. Too much stress can also increase smoking, drinking and even lead to drug use. This all brings bad effects to the whole society.
Many people experience stress on a daily basis, and many of the stressors are the same for everyone. Some people are, by nature or habit, more easily influenced to stress, or more likely to be stressed by something that would more easily roll off someone else's back. Listing the causes of stress is tricky. There can be external stressors and internal stressors. Major life events such as a divorce, death, financial worries, nagging health problems or managing a physically or mentally challenged family member can act as potential stressors. Even conditions such as a long time unemployment or a sudden lay-off from a job can leave you under extreme stress. Stress also comes from our personal and social contexts and from our psychological and emotional reactions to such conditioning. The personal relationship is also a major cause of stress, friends and family add a wonderful dimension to our lives: they help us celebrate the good times, and they help us make it through the tough times. There are some causes from different personalities such as type A personality which is a kind of person who always wants the perfect things around him or her, when he or she couldn`t get the result they expected. Another one is a pessimistic personality who always thinks about the negative parts of life and as a result, they receive a lot of pressure.
Fortunately, scientists have resources to help us deal with these issues. We will also find some information and tools we can use to calm down quickly when we feel overwhelmed. There are many different ways to manage stress. Some techniques of time management may help a person to control stress. Keeping an open mind, so you can have a collection of techniques that are the most effective for you: deep breathing exercises, meditation, progressive muscle relaxation and also music and Yoga are good ways to reduce stress. At the same time, you must take care of yourself. When we're stressed, we don't always take care of our bodies, which can lead to even more stress. There are some important ways which we should keep doing while we feel stressed, like healthy eating, better sleep, hobbies and healthy sex life. Bodies benefit from the nutritional value of a good diet to combat against the stressors. If you adopt a few of them, you can more easily manage stress without it becoming severe.
Everyone experiences stress from time to time, so it is perfectly normal. However, normal doesn't necessarily mean healthy. Believe it or not, you can learn how to largely eliminate stress. And believe it, we can do it better.
